How does it work?
The principle behind the mechanism is a rotating fret. It uses a rounded facet in fretted mode and a flat facet in fretless mode.

Is it durable/reliable?
There is no need for maintenance or adjustment. The high quality materials used in the mechanism require no lubrication. The frets are made of polished stainless steel for long life.

What about the switching mechanism? How long will it last?
One of the major concerns that people have voiced is about the durability of the mechanism. To allay this issue, a stress test was setup. The mechanism was hooked up between two solenoids and driven back and forth. A counter kept track of the cycles. The “clack clack” sound of the solenoids drove everyone nuts but, over the course of 8 weeks, the mechanism was cycled 1,000,581 times. That’s the equivalent of 20 back and forth switches a day for about 137 years. The result…
